What is Play Therapy?

Children often do not have the vocabulary to express their thoughts and feelings. Through play however, a child can communicate their thoughts and emotions about their experiences. Play Therapy provides a way for children to share their experiences with a trained professional, leading to emotional release and recovery.
The play therapy room allows more freedom than other areas within a child's life, helping them feel accepted and safe. During therapy, your child's thoughts, feelings, and actions become evident to the trained professional through their play.
Play Therapy should only be provided by licensed mental health professionals with extensive specialized training.
Through observing children at play, we recognize what their worries, concerns, and fantasies are. We learn about their basic needs, their feelings of love and anger, their rivalries and fears of failure, their secret wishes and desires.”
